Donetsk National Medical University was the first medical university in Ukraine and in Eastern Europe who started the faculties of Medicine and Dentistry in English language for foreign students.
Donetsk National Medical University has the IVth (the highest) level of accreditation in Ukraine and it has greatly contributed to the development of Ukraine’s higher educational system, medical science and health services. At present, over 1120 teachers work at the 82 departments of the Donetsk National Medical University (DNMU).

Since March 2004, Donetsk National Medical University (DNMU) has been appointed the primary regional Centre for Bologna process managing in Ukraine. DNMU students have the opportunity to attend various exchange programs with other European Medical Universities and after getting the Specialist degree they will have very attractive employment prospective in Europe and America.

Foreign students are studying in group of 10-12 students. The second year students attend their clinical studies where they can gain experience in nursing the patients. Clinical subjects are taught beginning from the third year of study. Students can study any topic of interest and to raise their of knowledge in the departments.
Students can chose their future specialization out of various courses presented in Donetsk National Medical University (DNMU):
GENERAL MEDICINE (MD / MBBS): English and Russian Medium of Instruction.
Duration of Course: 6 years
Degree Awarded: Doctor of Medicine (MD or MBBS).
PEDIATRICS: English and Russian Medium of Instruction.
Duration of Course: 6 years
Degree Awarded: Doctor of Medicine (MD or MBBS).
DENTISTRY / STOMATOLOGY: English and Russian Medium of Instruction.
Duration of Course: 5 years.
Degree awarded: Bachelor of dentistry (BDS).
PHARMACY: English and Russian Medium of Instruction. The duration of the pharmacy course is 5 years.
NURSING: English and Russian Medium of Instruction. The duration of the course is 2 years for diploma and 4 years for bachelors degree. The degree awarded is bachelor of nursing.
POST GRADUATE EDUCATION: The Donetsk National Medical University (DNMU) offers post graduate studies in all medical fields. The duration of the study is 2-3 years.
PRE-MEDICAL COURSE: This is a Russian intensive program for students wishing to continue their studies at the Donetsk National Medical University (DNMU) or any other University in Ukraine. The duration of the preparatory course is one year. Upon successful completion a diploma is awarded.
FOUNDATION COURSE: This course is specially designed for the foreign students who do not have the necessary requirements for the undergraduate programs and also it helps to enable students to bridge the gap between school and University. The duration of the foundation course is one year.
Donetsk National Medical University is known nationally for its many innovative teaching, clinical training and research programs. Our award-winning faculty members constantly strive for innovation and excellence in the classroom, the laboratory and the clinic. Because the class size is relatively small, our faculty members get to know each student. It is one thing to say the University has terrific people and programs and another to prove it.
Training of physicians is conducted under the guidance of experienced teachers, doctors and candidates of medical sciences. Teaching is carried out according to modern standards of higher educational establishments. The main goal of the faculty is to prepare qualified physicians for the world, who perfectly knows their business with high fundamentals and training.
In the under graduate program, during six years of study the students learn different subjects from fundamental subjects disciplines to special medical subjects.
The faculty provides comfortable atmosphere, highly qualified teaching staff, and big library to students for learning. All graduates are employed after graduation in the field that is not only a confirmation of the high ranking of DNMU, but also high rank of the qualified professors and purposeful work of his students.
All six years of the program are important and all must be passed successfully before students are permitted to graduate.
The Ministry of education and Ministry of Public health, Ukraine approved the curriculum of the medical faculty. Almost all the countries of the world accepts the degree of Donetsk National Medical University.
The state final examinations on all the disciplines according to the syllabus are held within one system through 2 stages:
– testing practical proficiency of final-year students (when exams on clinical disciplines are taken, testing takes place at the hospital)
– testing scientific/theoretical proficiency.
The successful students who will complete study of five years, then on graduation work for another year under probation in order to gain general registration. There is a wide range of specializations available in the public and private sectors, involving research, academic medicine, public health, clinical medicine and other areas. Specialties include Cardiology, Oncology, Pediatrics, Psychological Medicine, Surgery, Pathology, Public Health, General Practice and many others. Most doctors complete postgraduate training in their chosen specialty.

In Donetsk National Medical University there are 59 clinical departments which are working under DNMU and students get their clinical and practical training at these departments. Almost all clinical departments of DNMU are located in different hospitals of city of Donetsk and most of the hospitals are located at the campus of the Donetsk National Medical University. Students have complete rights to use the clinical labs of all the hospitals. Laboratories are well equipped with all modern facilities and equipments.

In Donetsk National Medical University (DNMU) the academic year is divided into two semesters.:
- First semester starts in the first to mid of September and lasts till the last week of January.
- Second semester starts in the first week of February lasts till mid of July.
Within the week there are 5 working days, Saturday and Sunday are holidays. The studies are scheduled from 8.00 to 16.00. The student’s working week comprises 54 hours; within this time period there are 36 lecturing hours and 18 hours for independent work.
The teaching course period includes the time of teaching semesters, final control and vacations. The teaching year is 12 months long and comprises teaching days, days of final control, examination sessions , off days, celebration and vacation days. Visiting of all kinds of studies (except for consultations) is obligatory for the students.
Summer vacation covers the month of July and august.
During holidays students may have easy access to CIS & all countries in Europe by bus, train and flights. Special program and trips are also available to enable students to experience first hand the transition process in Russia or Ukrainian, CIS counties and elsewhere in Europe.
